Like many other widows and single income earners, we live in a society where one thinks that they deserve an abode all to themselves until death.
Over 25 years ago we were paying $3,500 in property taxes for a house in Ottawa of much lesser value. It is known that Toronto property taxes are much lower then many other places in the country.
I say to this person, and others, shack up, find a border, or share the house! On the other side of the coin we have many homeless people and others who pay high rent to multi-millionaire owners.
If you cannot afford it move out! That is the law of Capitalsim.
Even with a Union paid job, 30 years ago, I myself could not come close to buying my fathers house in Cabbagetown. The wealthy always displace the poor. It happens all over the world.
Dish out or ship out just like countless millions if not billions of others!
The spoiled think they deserve or are owed, just like some life time employs.
Houses are no longer "homes" but raher "investments".
